Medication-assisted treatment · Barrington and Cherry Hill, NJ

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) in South Jersey

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medication with counseling and therapy. Physicians at both Ripple locations, in Barrington and Cherry Hill, provide MAT alongside our PHP, IOP, and outpatient programs. Whether medication fits your plan is a decision you make with our medical team after an assessment.

What MAT is

What medication-assisted treatment means

MAT treats addiction with two things at once: medication that eases withdrawal, cravings, or the effects of the drug, and therapy that works on the reasons behind substance use. For opioid use disorder, medication is a recommended part of treatment. Withdrawal management alone, without ongoing treatment, is not considered enough.

At Ripple, MAT is not a separate program. It is part of your care in PHP, IOP, or OP, so your medication and your therapy are planned by the same team.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is medication-assisted treatment?

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medication with counseling and therapy to treat substance use disorders, especially opioid and alcohol use disorder.

Does Ripple offer MAT?

Yes. Physicians at both of our locations, in Barrington and Cherry Hill, provide medication-assisted treatment as part of PHP, IOP, and outpatient care.

Which medications treat opioid addiction?

The three FDA-approved medications for opioid use disorder are buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone. Methadone is only dispensed through certified opioid treatment programs. Ask us which options fit your situation.

Do I need to detox before starting MAT?

Not always. Some medications can be started as withdrawal begins, while naltrexone requires being off opioids first. Your assessment decides the safest path.

Is MAT just replacing one drug with another?

No. Medications for opioid use disorder are prescribed and monitored treatments that reduce cravings and overdose risk, used together with therapy.

Can I keep my current prescriber?

Yes. Tell us who prescribes for you and, with your permission, we coordinate with them.
