Starting outpatient treatment at Ripple

Starting treatment at Ripple begins with a phone call or an online message. We ask a few questions, check your insurance, and set up a clinical assessment to decide which program fits: PHP, IOP, or outpatient care. If Ripple is not the right fit, we help you find a program that is.

The process

What happens when you contact us

You reach out

Call (856) 215-5253 or send a message online. You can call for yourself or for someone you love.

A short conversation

We ask about substance use, health, and what is going on right now, and answer your questions.

Insurance check

We verify your benefits and explain what your plan covers before you start.

Clinical assessment

A clinician recommends a level of care and explains why. Then we schedule your start.

Be ready

What is helpful to have ready

  • Your insurance card, or the name of your plan.
  • A list of medications you take, including any prescribed for addiction or mental health.
  • The name of any doctor, therapist, or prescriber you already see.
  • A rough idea of what you use, how often, and when you last used. There is no judgment in these questions.
Level of care

How we decide which program fits

Your assessment looks at your substance use, withdrawal risk, physical and mental health, and support at home. Our guide to how the assessment turns into a recommendation walks through the six dimensions clinicians use. From there, we recommend PHP, IOP, or OP. You can compare all three on our programs page.

If you need medical detox first, we help arrange placement with a detox provider and plan your start at Ripple. Here is how detox placement works. People taking Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan or Valium should tell us during the assessment, because the plan changes; here is what benzodiazepine withdrawal involves and why we never advise stopping cold turkey.

Paying for care

Insurance and payment questions

Ripple works with many major private insurance plans. Coverage and network status depend on your specific plan, so we check your benefits and explain them in plain language before you start. Verify your insurance online.

For families

Calling for someone you love

Many first calls come from a parent, partner, or friend. You can call us to ask questions, understand the options, and plan how to talk with your loved one. Our guide on helping a family member get into treatment walks through the next steps. If you are comparing programs, read how to choose the right treatment center.
